Prof. Katarzyna Komosińska-Vassev, PhD, DSc is the Head of the Department of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Diagnostics at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Sosnowiec, Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland. She has been affiliated with the university for over 30 years and serves as Vice-Chair of the Discipline Council for Medical Sciences and a member of the Science Committee. Since 2020, she has also been a member of the Senate, representing professors and SUM professors. In 2021, she was ranked among the top 2% of the world’s most influential scientists based on citation impact, as featured in a prestigious ranking by Stanford University and Elsevier. Prof. Komosińska-Vassev is an expert in the evaluation of national and international research projects funded by organizations such as the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR), the Croatian Science Foundation, and the Ministry of Science and Education of Croatia. She has participated in 39 research projects and completed international scientific training internships at Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne, France, and the Medical University of Varna, Bulgaria. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the College of Laboratory Medicine in Poland, Vice-Chair of the Katowice branch of the Polish Society of Laboratory Diagnostics (PTDL), and a member of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine. Her research focuses on the metabolism of extracellular matrix components (ECM) and free radical and antioxidant activity in various physiological conditions and pathologies. She has developed a biodegradable dressing incorporating propolis for non-healing wounds, leading to a patent for a “Wound dressing and method of manufacturing a wound dressing.” Her research also involves the evaluation of changes in glycosaminoglycans and ECM proteins and the search for new molecular biomarkers in laboratory diagnostics and disease progression. 🌟🔬📚
